I've been thinking about purchasing, but I have a couple of questions first if someone has the time.

What is the current state of development? Active?

What's the current version? When was it released? If not a major release, when was the last major release?

I understand the desire to make money, but I'd hate to buy a product that only allows minor version updates, and have a new major version released weeks later. Also, I wouldn't want to buy a product and have there be no support or future updates to it.

Thanks!

This should answer you questions about release times and dates.

So far as I know the engine is being updated a lot.

Yes, the engine is updated pretty actively, as per the blog. Note that customers do actually get read-only access to the Git repository where Impact itself is developed.

The next major version, 2.0, has been stated somewhere on the blog to be 'aimed for' June or July this year.

The real question, though, isn't whether you get updates or not, it's simply whether the time you'll spend in fighting with canvas, input, sound etc. is worth more or less than the $99 you'll spend to get something that harmonises a lot of that stuff. $99 amounts to a little over two hours work consulting work for me, and it's already saved me a great deal more than that in time, so for me it was a no-brainer.

I should also note that Dom has included things in the code that are quite significant in recent times - each x.y release has included quite significant features; for example 1.19 added sloped tiles for collisions etc. which is a pretty major enhancement in my book, and Dom has been pretty good about adding things that people ask for (and if code can be provided as proof of concept, it has been known to be included)

Thanks for the help, I think my decisions made.

Now quick question about appMobi. Should I bother with that? I'm already leaning towards just getting the Impact license from here. Then worrying about appMobi later if ever. Just wasn't sure if there was any opinions about them. I checked out the XDK and looked at some tutorials, but honestly it seems a bit... off.

Thanks again. (Duh... Blog...Shoulda looked there)

If you get the Impact licence from them (with the GamePro pack), it's only good for 5 games.

If you use the free XDK, it has no licence for Impact.
