hey everyone,
it's been a while since a new game was posted so i thought i'd pop this here,

it's basically a game made to help me familiarize myself with impact,
so it's very quick (i can run through it in under 5 minutes)

if you run into any quirks or errors however do tell,
one of the known issues so far is the sounds don't play in firefox
(there's an mp3 version and an ogg version)

but most of all, have fun !
thanks everyone

The graphics are professional, very nice.

I've tried playing the game in several browsers on my GNU/Linux system, and unfortunately I did run into some problems. Each browser has its own problems. Some of these may be the result of your code loading the MP3s and OGGs after each other (with the same IDs), but I'm not sure.

Recent versions of three browsers:
- Opera 11.50 (Build 1074) : nice frame rate, sometimes the sound effects work and sometimes they don't, there is no music, every now and then the game freezes the browser (requires me to kill and restart it), sometimes when I'm pressing right or left the dog doesn't move in these directions at all or the dog walks very slowly (his feet still move quickly). All in all, it's more or less unplayable in Opera.
- Firefox 5.0: nice frame rate, no sound effects, no audio. It's playable. It's almost impossible (for me) to pass the three mushrooms in one of the caves past the snail. Did you ask someone to test play the game, like a (grand)parent, and watch him/her while (s)he gave it a try? The birds are funny though. :)
- Chromium (Chrome) 14.0.806.0: only shows two identical lines of ASCII characters (!"#$%&'[]*+, and so on). However, when I press space the game starts and only one of the lines stays on the screen. No audio, no sound effects. It's playable. I keep trying to get the pie piece on the right, but I guess it's really too high up.

Somewhat older versions of two other browsers:
- Konqueror 4.4.5: the webpage/game freezes the browser. Restarting the browser and retrying it will just freeze it again.
- Epiphany 2.30.6: starts with a slower frame rate, after the jellybeandog logo a nice frame rate. When I press space, I hear the music (it loops, with about 17 seconds of silence in between), but other than that the browser freezes and I can't play the game.

It would be nice if could get all audio to work in either Firefox or Chromium, because I would like to record a video for my website html5-games.org that has not just the graphics but also the sound effects and music in it.

You write "(there's an mp3 version and an ogg version)", but I'm not sure what you mean by that. It seems there is just one version and it loads both the MP3 and OGG files. Could you maybe allow us to pass...
yeah.html?audio=mp3
yeah.html?audio=ogg
...and then use PHP to load either the MP3s or the OGGs?
That might fix the audio problems for some folks.

i actually have not done any testings for the linux systems, so i guess that's why there're so many problems, my bad

so far i've run it on:
mac osx 10.6.8
safari 5.05 (fine), chrome 12.0.742 (fine), firefox 5.0 (no sound), firefox 3.6.15 (no sound, slow framerate), opera 11.10 (no sound)

windows 7
explorer 9.0.8 (fine), safari 5.05 (fine), chrome 12.0.742 (fine), firefox 5.0 (no sound), opera 11.50 (no sound)

i've also realized on opera the arrow keys are also bind to the page navigation as in if i hold down the up key for the pudu to jump it will also scroll the page up, similar to down and possibly left and right

regarding the game crashes and freezes and the jumbled text for chromium, i wouldn't pretend i know what's going on or know how to fix it, but i'll try and clean up the codes and see if that helps

regarding the sounds, i think it all would have went better if i had used the soundmanager like dom suggested. i just taped together a rough because i couldn't get my head around soundmanager yet but i'm planning on fixing that next time i have a bit of time. what i think is happening now is probably like what you said because i have the mp3 and ogg under the same id firefox just loaded the mp3 first and didn't register the ogg

regarding the mushrooms, i had a few friends help me test it and one of them gave me a similar response. looking back it may be possibly a bit too hard for just a short game. to clear the jump you actually need to jump not too high till you hit the brick, but not too short to not make it to the ledge. i'll revisit that after i get the sound. i love that silly bird, looks so retarded

thanks again for the testings, i'll pop a little update here if i can get the sound working
