in safari impact download works fine at:

file:///Users/macbookapple/Sites/Dropbox/impact/impact19/index.html

but throws an error in chrome/firefox

Unable to get image data from canvas because the canvas has been tainted by cross-origin data.
Uncaught Error: SECURITY_ERR: DOM Exception 18 

jut moved over to a mac so do i need a WAMP or XAMPP for browsers other than safari if using the "sites" functionality of MAC OS?

In System Preferences, enable Web Sharing. Then, move your impact project to the ~/Sites folder, and browse to it, e.g., localhost/~paulh/myproject/

Or you could install MAMP, and then access your site by visiting localhost:8888/~paulh/myproject.

There are probably other solutions but those are the 2 that I use on a regular basis without problems.
