I have many tiles that do not fill the total tile size so they have white background around them. I'm trying to figure out how to make that background color transparent.

I think I understand your question. You are saying that when you place the tiles in the game you see a white background in each tile? To get rid of it simply open up any graphics tool (i.e Gimp, Photoshop, etc..) and remove it with the magic eraser, or put an Alpha channel on the background and click on select and cut. It depends on the program you have. Basically you have to manually remove the white spots on any image simply by using the tools in your graphics editor. If you need a tutorial, there are several on Youtube.

Even after i give the background transparent in GIMP the white background still shows up.

Okay, I think the problem is even after I update the tileset/image Weltmeister is still only showing/using the older version of the tileset.

When removing the background, did you uses the "Alpha Channel" selection in Gimp, and then use the tool that shows a magic wand and click the background and then removed the background? If you didn't do that method, the white background is still going to be there.

Here's how you do it:

1. Open up Gimp
2. Open the Image
3. Now click on "Layers", then under the category "Layers" click "Transparency", then after that click on "Add Alpha Channel".
3. Then find the "Fuzzy Select Tool" (looks like stick with a light on top of it), and select the white background, then right click and CUT.

Then test it on Weltmeister.

I did it that way the first time, thanks for your help. After testing around I realized that maybe the lowest layer ignores transparency, because after I made a layer higher than the lowest, transparency worked fine for the tiles.
