can anyone from appMobi (@TylerAppMobi) shed more light into this, and how it impacts the folks using ImpactJS?

"But, today, appMobi announced a new technology, called DirectCanvas, that it claims speeds up the often slow graphic rendering of HTML5 in mobile games by 500 percent. DirectCanvas was designed to accelerate the HTML5 canvas element, allowing graphics and animation in mobile games to be more fluid, in other words, to appear with greater speed and fewer glitches. appMobi hopes that its technology will allow game studios to build a more diverse range of mobile games, which many have resisted because of the questions over whether or not devices can support complex HTML5-based games."

Tyler is out at E3 right now, but it's pretty cool. We're still building it out, but there will be no impact to impactjs users. The goal is that most of the html5 game frameworks will also be supported.

When it's done, it will be included in our container and you will still be able to use our native webview for menu's, etc, then switch to the DirectCanvas for your game.

Any update on when DirectCanvas might be available?

We are releasing a closed beta of Direct Canvas this week. Email me at Tyler@appmobi.com and I'll send you everything you'll need to start developing with Direct Canvas.

So Direct Canvas works with impactjs?

Yup! We've made a plugin that you'll just include. I'm working on making a demo that shows how to implement Direct Canvas into an Impact game. Basically it'll be the jumpnrun starter game but running with Direct Canvas.

hi,

I'm not using ImpactJS yet, but I'm seriously considering it; just wanted to ask before - does JavaScriptCore used in impact and DirectCanvas in appmobi play well together?

From what I understand, JavaScriptCore is native iOS code, so you'd need to deploy your project using Xcode, while appmobi has it's own deployment solution.

Are there any examples of succesfully deployed appmobi+impactjs games? Anyone has some experience he could share? How about impactjs+phonegap? :)

appMobi should just acquire impactjs!

@ard

With Direct Canvas you can make builds of impactJS without having a mac or using Xcode. You do need an apple developer account though since you will still have to insert certs and mobileprovisioning files.

We have two games currently deployed in the apple store that used impactJS (not direct canvas enabled yet). I am working on finishing the update to Code Crackin Carl McCracken that uses Direct Canvas and I'll post on these forums when it is approved.

I've also made a couple videos that are helpful ( I hope ) in making an ImpactJS game mobile using appMobi . They can be found here : http://www.youtube.com/user/appMobi#g/u
